AI Moderation and the Democratic Public Sphere

AGORA-KI is investigating how AI agents are transforming digital debates and democratic oversight.

Themes
Democratic participation & culture of remembrance
In collaboration with
University of Mannheim PENEMUE Technologies GmbH Institute for Technology Assessment and Systems Analysis (ITAS)

As part of the AGORA-KI collaborative project, we are investigating the role that language-simulating AI agents play in content moderation on digital communication platforms. What significance do LLM-based systems have in the increasingly automated management of digital discourse – both today and in the foreseeable future?

Together with our project partners, we are investigating how automated moderation is changing our culture of communication, our approach to responsibility and the evaluation of knowledge, and how these processes can be subject to democratic oversight.

AGORA-KI is being implemented as an interdisciplinary joint project as part of the BMFTR funding measure „INSIGHT II – interdisziplinäre Perspektiven auf disruptive Innovationen“.
