New prompt/ issue in August

With its practical guide to the AI Act, the EU Commission has published a comprehensive and complex guide for AI providers. It is intended to accompany and support companies, institutions and organisations in the implementation of the AI Act. But what does the “Code of Practice” offer in concrete terms, who exactly is affected by the requirements and what regulatory benefits should it have? We address these and other questions in detail in this issue of prompt/. We take a look at the statements on the Code of Practice from GEMA, the Centre for Digital Rights and Democracy and the industry association Bitkom. You will see that while the Code of Practice is an unusual regulatory instrument, it is not new for the EU. We explain what the recently published EU guidelines mean for AI providers and outline what is coming next under the AI Act and the key upcoming milestones.

Event information: On 4 September 2025, the team of the accompanying research project GenKI-IR will be hosting a highly engaging lunch talk. The focus will be on AI and liability, which will be discussed in more detail in two keynote speeches by Julia Smakman from the Ada Lovelace Institute and Dr Martin Ebers from the Robotics & AI Law Society. The team will also be presenting the initial interim results of their research into the legal and social framework conditions for the use of generative AI.
