Data trustee models can help ensure that healthcare data in Germany is shared and used securely. In our study, we show how data trustee models work and suggest ways to implement them - for example, when it comes to the electronic patient file (ePA) or the political and legal framework for a robust health data network. Our study makes an important contribution to the debate on the current state of e-health in Germany and neighbouring European countries.
