We all use digital communication tools such as messengers and social networks today, and yet our knowledge of them is often limited - especially when it comes to data protection and how they work. People who are new to Germany and Berlin in particular are increasingly relying on digital communication to network. They therefore also need reliable information about WhatsApp, Telegram and the like. This is where our Berlin Newcomers project, which is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for the Environment, Mobility, Consumer and Climate Protection, comes in. In the first phase of the project, we worked with refugees to design a practical brochure on digital communication to help them help themselves. In the follow-up project, we expanded our range of assistance: we provide refugees and multipliers with basic and orientation knowledge on consumer topics in the context of digitalisation and promote their basic skills in “digital consumer education” with compact educational offers.
