Remembering the past digitally
What happens when there are no witnesses left? The Foundation “Remembrance, Responsibility and Future” (EVZ) promotes new digital formats for historical-political education, an effort that we have accompanied and supported.
Digital historical-political education is a rapidly developing field. Engaging websites and digitized archives are a matter of course today. But which formats will be needed in the future? Where can digital witnesses be used and where can augmented reality projects work? And what do the innovative actors in historical-political education actually need to do in order to secure funding? Which new cooperations must be set up so that digital projects can be implemented? And even more importantly, how can digital projects with historical content foster a discourse that promotes democracy?
The EVZ would like to advertise its new funding program in Poland and Germany. Therefore, it is essential first to understand what work is already being done in both countries. Only then will it be possible to provide meaningful support for the foundation and the projects.
The EVZ support program digital // memory will be launched in the autumn 2019 with a series of innovative digital projects in Germany and Poland. We extensively surveyed the situation in both countries and, together with actors the digital scene and people who do remembrance work, we developed creative project ideas and defined the conditions for their success. We accompany the program and support the various funding recipients in implementing their projects through capacity building and networking. We evaluate the program on an ongoing basis and advise the Foundation EVZ on the further development of its other digital grant programs.
