Enable public authorities and businesses to better handle data.
Data governance serves to ensure data protection and data security, access rights, data availability and data quality. The Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure wanted to know how organizations can implement self-data governance and is supporting our project as accompanying research for the mFUND.
Today, a large part of the innovations in the mobility sector are based on the use of different data sources. It is precisely such research and development projects relating to digital data-based applications for mobility 4.0 that the BMVI’s mFUND research initiative has been funding since 2016. while some of the implementing organizations have decades of experience in the strategic handling of data, others see ensuring data quality or data security as a major challenge.
We want to enable public authorities and companies to set up their own rules and structures for responsible handling of the data they manage and use — this is called self governance. The concept for this is being developed on the basis of the needs of the mFUND projects. Since some companies and authorities are already acting in accordance with data governance, case studies will be prepared as best practices. Annual online surveys as well as interviews with the mFUND projects are necessary for a continuous view on the needs. At the same time, we work in an interdisciplinary team and consult other experts* at various points, as data governance touches on a wide range of topics.
The project team develops novel self-data governance concepts for different types of organizations. The resulting consulting model can be used in various data-driven industries. Interim results are published and discussed at various events, at trade fairs, local meetings and via the data governance reports.
