Review of our digital // memory Online Symposium on Digital Historical Education
Over 90 participants from many European cities celebrated with us the first funding year of the digital // memory programme, supported by the EVZ Foundation. Some fruitful and exciting 12 months of the digital // memory funding programme come to an end.
Since October 2019, the EVZ Foundation has been supporting six Polish and German projects who work on innovative digital formats for historical-civic education. All funded projects of the program presented their projects and gave us an insight into their work.
We spoke about the chances and challenges of the digital historical-civic education. The projects and participants discussed how stakeholders like educational institutions, museums, memorial sites and civil society organizations preserve memory in a digital age.
Anna Styczyńska from the Museum of the History of the Polish Jews POLIN in Warsaw gave insight into the digital portfolio of her institution: Their digital program ranges from virtual tours to podcasts and a radio programme. The POLIN also offers a digital tour of their exhibition.
Little wonder the impact of Covid-19 on the digital historical-civic education was also an issue in the exchange of experiences amongst the participants.
Anna from POLIN presented how the pandemic influenced their audience composition: People started being online at different times of the day compared to the past. They were also more likely to read longer texts. Last but not least, the demographic composition changed: Now, they have a younger audience as more and more people in their 20s and 30s started using their digital offerings.
Our event wrapped up this funding year of digital // memory, but the programme will continue:
iRights.Lab will continue to accompany the projects in the second year. Please find more information here.
