Copyright Congress 2013: “Self-Determination in the Digital Network – Copyright and User Interests in the Balance?”

Copyright came about in a time long before the internet could even be imagined. That is precisely what makes it so difficult to use existing law to find answers to the questions posed by digitalization What is clear is that we need new rules. But what are the most important areas where new rules are needed?

These were the questions that we wanted to address on 6 September 2013 at that year’s Copyright Congress in Berlin. The organisation was jointly done by the iRights.Lab and the Copyright Initiative (Initiative Urheberrecht). The event created a forum where all participants could make themselves heard and discuss ideas and proposal controversially – not in an adversarial spirit, but constructively and forward-looking.
